According to UNC-Asheville’s website, Underdog Productions is a “student-led, student-run, and student funded entertainment organization.” Working directly with faculty and staff on the Campus Programming Board, Underdog Productions (commonly referred to as UP) is responsible for bringing comedians, musicians, magicians, and much more on campus for weekend and evening activities.
Robin Singer, a UNC-Asheville senior majoring in Mass Communication, is known around campus as the president of the popular Underdog Productions. A commercial media concentration and a background in journalism make the 23-year old (?) a force to be reckoned with. Now 4 years into a degree in Mass Communication, Singer hopes her skills will gain her an enjoyable career. “I came into college thinking about majoring in Mass Communication after being involved with my high school yearbook. I always really enjoyed layout and design and creating cutlines and all that goes along with that,” said Singer. “The fundamentals of the major, like mastering Associated Press style, were tough at first, but I think having those skills and everything else that I've learned and developed over these past four years will open up opportunities to me after graduation.” Having a degree in Mass Communication could lead to a career in journalism, film, advertising, marketing, business, public relations, and many more. Singer hopes to find a marketing and communications job after graduating on May 5th with her class, the class of 2012. “After graduation I hope to get a job. I'd like to work in the communications and/or marketing field, which could be anything from managing social media to print design. I’d say that my only career goal would be to successfully work my way up and to not only have a job that I excel at, but one I really love to do.” |
